Private tuition

Private tutoring should begin with a goal or set of goals. It could be for a pupil to develop deeper subject understanding; to consolidate learning for examinations; to learn examination skills and time management; to prepare for specific School Entrance requirements.

Above all, tuition should build a pupil’s confidence in their own ability to achieve. Academic expectations are changing. Schools are looking for independent thinkers; problem solvers who can think outside the box when facing new challenges.

Benefits

Private tuition can be flexible and responsive, tailored to meet the needs of the pupil. Learning can be targeted at the gaps in what the pupil needs to reach identified goals. Learning can progress organically, without distractions or group constraints and in a familiar space.

Tuition should not be a forever option. Goals need to be met. Pupils should be equipped to continue growing as successful, independent, confidently engaged learners.

Online Tuition

Online tutoring was proven in the 2020 Covid lockdown to be an effective tool for children of all ages. It enables the tutor-pupil relationship to exist between regions and countries – which has also proven useful for families who live abroad or are preparing to move to the UK.

My way

Online tutoring has become my main method of teaching. I aim to make learning fun, to inspire children to enjoy a subject, to develop a can-do attitude and a desire to achieve for their own sake. I am a strong believer in the individuality of each child and finding the best way to meet their needs and support their way of learning.

I encourage parent-tutor collaboration and I have found that if a parent sits with their child in initial lessons they can observe techniques and methods to use for continuing learning at home.

I like to set homework, which I return marked with suggestions. I send material to print before each lesson which gives parents and pupils a preview of what we will be working towards. I offer feedback after each lesson, support on strategies and insight into the child’s progress and level of understanding.

About me

I am a fully qualified primary teacher with over 16 years’ experience in the classroom and as a tutor. I have worked extensively in the independent sector and I have gained considerable experience in the 7+, 8+ and 11+ exams.

I am always aware of the pressure and anxiety exams can bring to the child’s wellbeing. I place a lot of emphasis on developing resilience, self-worth and lateral thinking to help the child adapt to challenging situations.

I am fluent in Italian, proficient in French and can prepare children for GCSE and A level exams in these modern languages.

I hold a CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in English as a second Language) which allows me to support children and adults who are learning as a second language in main stream school and the workplace. I hold an enhanced DBS check. My teaching qualifications can be verified and I can provide references.
